After putting a bow on the 2020 NFL Draft with team-by-team recaps it is now time to look to the future. The 2020 college football season “should be” getting underway in a little over two months. When (if?) the season starts, Deep Fried Draft will be right there bringing you all of the things you are accustomed to seeing from me.
Like last year, I am entering the 2021 NFL Draft season with 300 names on my watch list.
Today, we are going to look at the guards. These players will be listed only by class and not in any sort of official ranking.
2021 Preliminary Offensive Guard List
|Zion Johnson||Boston College||Sr||6’3||310|
|D’Anta Smith||East Carolina||Sr||6’4||295|
|Luke Campbell||Michigan State||Sr||6’5||290|
|Tommy Kramer||Notre Dame||Sr||6’5||319|
|Josh Sills||Oklahoma State||Sr||6’5||338|
|Michal Menet||Penn State||Sr||6’4||313|
|Sadarius Hutcherson||South Carolina||Sr||6’3||320|
|Jack Anderson||Texas Tech||Sr||6’5||320|
I am not going to blow smoke up anyone’s rear ends here, the only two senior guard prospects I have watched are Sadarius Hutcherson and Luke Campbell. Neither of which is currently viewed as an elite talent. There is work to be done here.
|Wyatt Davis||Ohio State||Jr||6’4||313|
Wyatt Davis was a top recruit out of high school and has excelled at every turn. Davis also has elite bloodlines. Davis is the grandson of NFL Hall of Fame defensive end Willie Davis. However, more importantly, he is the son of Alvin Mack. Alvin Mack was a central character in one of (if not the best) football movie, “The Program”. Duane Davis, Wyatt’s father, provided the acting chops to one of the most memorable characters in sports cinema.
Next up, we look ahead to the 2021 center class.
