2020 NFL Draft: Final Linebacker Rankings

The 2020 NFL Draft is three weeks away from today. After watching tape on over 400 prospects, I can finalize my board.

Because of the worldwide pandemic shutting down any sense of normalcy, this year’s final grades are going to be off. Because of athletic testing being incomplete on nearly half of the prospects I watched tape on, I was forced to make some adjustments to final grades. Each player who didn’t record a RAS score was given a grade of 6 (1-10 scale). This may end up hurting most prospects who would have tested much higher than that and may help a few that wouldn’t have.

It is a tad disappointing that in the first year of my new grading system that it is so incomplete but here we are. Tape grades are the biggest percentage of final scores so for the most part, the system should work.

Over the next two weeks, I will breakdown each position group for the 2020 NFL Draft.

Today, let’s check in on the linebackers.

OVERALL CLASS

The 2020 LB class is an overall very athletic group. Isaiah Simmons is the top dog in the class. Simmons is capable of playing 5-6 roles on defense and being elite at all of them.

I am a huge fan of Kenneth Murray. He is a sideline-to-sideline dynamo. There are questions about his coverage ability. However, I feel he should have no issue figuring it out. Patrick Queen and Zack Baun are both potential first-round selections although I don’t necessarily view them that highly.

WHO AM I HIGHER ON THAN MOST?

Cal’s Evan Weaver has been the most productive LB at the FBS level over the last few seasons. If there was a tackle to make…Weaver made it. He tested okay. At the Senior Bowl, Weaver was solid in coverage and was dynamite on special teams.

WHO AM I LOWER ON THAN MOST?

Injuries and poor testing have me far lower on David Woodward than others I have seen. Before 2019, Woodward looked like a future star. Now I feel if he has a Nick Vigil type of career it will be surprising.

Next up, we will check in on the cornerbacks.
