2020 NFL Draft: Pre-Combine Edge Rusher Rankings

The 2020 NFL Draft season is in full peak. We have made it through the Senior Bowl and we are now fast approaching the Scouting Combine.

Over the next couple of weeks, I will be releasing my Pre-Combine position rankings. No score is final because of the lack of athletic testing data. This data will come after combine and pro days are completed.

Today, we will look at the edge rushers. I have watched tape on 31 edge prospects to this point.

TOP GUYS

Between the Bosa brothers and Chase Young, Ohio State keeps producing insanely great pass rushers. Young notched 16.5 sacks despite being suspended two games due to NCAA hypocrisy. Some will point out that Young was shut out in OSU’s biggest games of the year. I say watch the tape and see how disruptive he was in those games.

I am going to be higher on Jonathan Greenard than most. Greenard bends quickly around the edge, plays solid run defense, and finishes at the QB. Curtis Weaver and A.J. Epenesa both use power to their advantage. K’Lavon Chaisson may have the highest upside of anyone not named Chase Young.

EDGE RUSHERS I LIKE MORE THAN MOST

Anfernee Jennings was easily the most productive pass rusher for Alabama this past season. He is good in run defense and gets after the QB.

EDGE RUSHERS I LIKE LESS THAN MOST

Yetur Gross-Matos was underwhelming in every game of his I watched. For one play you see the flashes of a great pass rusher. Then, the next 4-5 plays, nothing.

LATE ROUND PROSPECTS TO TAKE A FLIER ON

A pair of likely undrafted free agents, Niko Lalos and Reggie Walker both have nice pass rush upside to make an NFL squad.

Next time out, we will look at the defensive linemen.
