Big Ten: Are Any Senior Quarterbacks Worth a Pick?

We got started with the Senior QBs by looking at some of the lesser known guys. Now we are going to break down three from the Big Ten.

So, let’s take a look at Brian Lewerke, Nathan Stanley, and Shea Patterson.

Brian Lewerke, Sr, Michigan State

Games Watched: (2017) Ohio State, (2018) Indiana

Brian Lewerke was highly thought of coming into the 2018 season. After watching a game from ’17 & ’18, I have no clue why. Lewerke has an average arm. He has sloppy mechanics, his accuracy is off-putting, and his decision making is suspect. Lewerke doesn’t see pressure until it is too late. He almost looked shell-shocked at times.

Barring a complete 180, Lewerke is not draftable in my opinion.

Nathan Stanley, Sr, Iowa

Games Watched: (2018) Maryland, Penn State

Stanley is not going to wow you in any facet of the game. His arm is above average and he has a good build. Stanley gets through his reads quick enough. His mechanics are not a hindrance. Stanley needs to navigate the pocket better.

Maybe it was the scheme, maybe it was decision making, or maybe it was something else. But when you have two first-round picks at tight end, one would think you would get them the ball more.

Production Score (Preliminary): 8

Preliminary Score (Minus Athletic Testing): 5.52

Shea Patterson, Sr, Michigan

Games Watched: (2018) Notre Dame, Wisconsin

Shea Patterson transferred to Michigan from Ole Miss. He was allowed to transfer without restriction after the Rebels got hammered by the NCAA.

Patterson has a big-league arm. He tends to miss high with the fastball a bit too much. Patterson looks good moving around the pocket. He is an excellent athlete. Patterson has near perfect mechanics. I would love to see him come off of his first read more. A little more seasoning could serve him well this year.

Preliminary Score (Minus Athletic Testing): 6

On our next journey during the QB voyage, we will head down south to the SEC.
